A Sojourn into Photography

Always with a passion for the outdoors, I picked up my first camera in grade school and with that my fascination with photography began. Through my college years I continued to shoot and process film, but then took a long hiatus during my sojourn into medicine. It was nearly 30 years later when I was able to once again return to photography. Though I never stopped exploring the natural world around us, I finally had time to delve into the very different realm of digital photography and the intricacies of post-processing and picked up a digital camera for the first time in 2011.  My journey into digital photography first started with trying to capture the essence of dogs and their communication:

My journey took me in 2012, to the eastern part of Alachua County where Carson Springs Wildlife Sanctuary serves as home to abused and neglected wild animals. I have had the great fortune of being able to assist in such a great cause and at such an amazing facility providing care for so many animals in need:

And then with 2013, it was onto exploring the incredible natural world around us at home in Gainesville, Florida where we are fortunate to be surrounded by such an incredible ecosystem. My goal is to capture those special moments of our natural environs and hopefully help foster respect and the need for preservation of what hangs in such a delicate balance.

No need to travel far. This is what sits right outside the back door:

And close by are the wonders of La Chua Trail, Payne's Prairie:

And Newnan's Lake, Payne's Prairie:

Then moving further east to the Alligator Farm and Rookery, St. Augustine:

Matanzas Inlet, St. Augustine:

Washington Oaks Gardens State Park, St. Augustine:

And there is so much more yet still to be seen…..
